Becoming Fake Fragrance Free is a straightforward and rewarding process. In order to become Fake Fragrance Free, your business must adhere to these requirements. We will guide you each step of the way. Don't be afraid to ask us questions!

  • No artificial fragrances - Air fresheners, incense, or candles can contain phthalates and release particulates into the air. If you choose to scent your office or restaurant with a plant based aroma, then don't worry; we love plant based scents!
  • No thermal paper receipts - Thermal receipts contain large amounts of BPA. We recommend emailed or handwritten receipts instead.
  • Safe cleaning supplies - Many conventional cleaning supplies contain toxic ingredients that can be inhaled or absorbed. Switch to products that do not contain fragrance and are not labeled "antibacterial". For a complete list of safe cleaning tips, visit the Environmental Working Group's site
  • No hand sanitizer with parfum or triclosan - Both of these chemicals are linked to several health issues. To see if your hand sanitizer is safe, check out the Environmental Working Group's product data base.
  • No metal cans - Metal cans are lined with BPA or BPS, which are synthetic estrogens. Glass or plastic that is labeled with a recycling number of 1, 2, 4, or 5 is a good substitution for metal cans.
  • Sufficient cleaning and ventilation - Harmful substances can accumulate as dust or as particulate matter in the air. Cleaning and circulating air are good ways to get rid of these substances.
  • No pesticides - A significant portion of pesticides are known endocrine disruptors. Likewise, using pesticides to kill bugs and rodents is too much of a risk. There are many other pesticide-free alternatives to getting rid of pests.
